Peer Tutoring

The Autism program at Roosevelt High School has a peer tutor program which trains general education peers (freshmen-seniors) to tutor students in the Autism program.  Peer tutors teach students to use money, tell time, shop at local markets, and work at jobs in the school.  Tutors are matched one to one with students based on what students are working on during a particular period and the tutor’s interests.  Tutors participate in a full day of training at the beginning of each semester and attend staff meetings every few months.

If you are interested in being a tutor in the Autism program you should:

  1. Contact Candi Styer (by phone, email, or inn person) and discuss your interest in the program.
  2. Contact your counselor to discuss adding TA (peer tutoring) to your schedule.
  3. Go to room 209A and get the application and letter of recommendation forms (or do so online here).
  4. Complete the application and give recommendation forms to two references to return to Candi (in the mail box or to room 209A).
  5. Observe the Autism program to see if this is a good fit for you.
